The End of the Tyra (Banks) Show: A National Tragedy
Tyra Banks recently announced that she will be ending her 5-year-run as a talk show host in the Spring of 2010.
“This will be the last season of The Tyra Show,” Banks told People.com. “I’ve been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years.” (NY Daily News)
Intellectuals and the avant garde are heartbroken over the news of Ms. Banks departure from the hugely influential television talk show, which over the past five years has helped shape a multitude of disciplines including American thought, politics, the arts, and philosophical discourse, just to name a few; however, there seems to be some hope.
Banks had been among the names mentioned as potential heirs to the throne being vacated by talk show empress Oprah Winfrey, who announced in late November that she is abandoning The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011, after 25 years. (NY Daily News)
So there is indeed hope after all—Oprah’s undeniable contributions to American society will not die with her departure; Tyra Banks will pick up the torch and carry on the some of the most important work being done on the face of the planet today.
“My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are,” Banks says. (NY Daily News)
Well said Ms. Banks; very well said, indeed.
Note: Tyra Banks has been credited with helping create the fiercest generation of women in millennia, through empowering shows such America’s Next Top Model.

Sad day, and indeed a very sad loss. Is there a helpline available yet?
i’ve heard the suicide hotline is doing overtime…Maybe try there?
Does Joel McHale of E’s “SOUP” know yet?! What else will they report on? Well, I guess there’s always MTV’s “Jersey Shore”. meh!
i guess they’re gonna have to close as well… it really doesn’t matter, TV as we know it has ended… there’s no telling what’s gonna happen now…
I feel sad, depressed, and fearful… I hope we can make it together.
American society may never recover from this loss.
Maybe UPN channel 50 will put COPS back on!
What else am l gonna pleasure myself to now that she will be gone over the midnight hour?
just go back to regular porn!
i hate talk shows. they all suck.
what…she is gonna be the next Oprah…
is she fat enough (yet) ?
I don’t know whether I should celebrate or kill myself. Even though I’ve never watched the show
a friend of mine said his sister’s best friend really liked it. Maybe we can all learn a lesson from this and start watching more TV so heartbreaking tragedies like this won’t happen anymore!
In the face of such overwhelming tragedy as the loss of this pinnacle of thought provoking television, all I can think of is how terribly heartbroken the Soup’s Joel McHale must be at this news. We should send him a collective sympathy card.
Never fear! We still have Wendy Williams to contribute to american society!
