Too Small To Fail

They done good!

Oddly enough pumping billions of (printed) dollars into failing companies didn’t do what everyone had hoped. The companies which were too big to fail are still not producing the kinds of jobs analysts and experts anticipated. Lending is still sluggish, and the economy is not showing any signs of real recovery.

“Over the past decade and a half, America’s small businesses have created 65 percent of all new jobs in the country,” Obama told about 150 employees in a warehouse at a storage business filled with rows of boxes three-stories high. (MSNBC)

You mean to tell me Bush’s advisers were wrong to start from the top down? Now that’s just crazy! But I guess Obama knows best, and that’s why he immediately (after 9 months in office) diverted the bail-out money to help small businesses which apparently create most of the jobs in the U.S.. Excellent job everyone, Democrat and Republican alike.

well to the German people before WWII , Hitler made a lot of sense too. The only reason Obama is all praised is because he is a good speaker. What happened to the Nazi they failed because they had a retard for a leader who could only speak well. This is why i do not like Obama all he does is talk and throw money away, making the US economy grow weaker ever day. What, might i ask Martin, has Obama said that makes sense. That yes, we wanted change but not the change to be in our pockets and all that is left.

Why don’t you actually learn the truth instead of just following along with every other uneducated person who just listens to the media.

You dont lend to people who cannot afford to pay….you just dont allow it…

the thing that gets me is the recession is GLOBAL. it’s not just america going through it and Bush can’t be blamed for everything. sure, his views were scary and I was glad to see him out of office, but not EVERYTHING is his fault. I love that obama is trying to fix things, but I think he’s trying to do too much all at once. after he was elected, he came out and said we probably wouldn’t see many results during his first term. at least he was honest about that. he’s not magic. it wouldn’t have mattered who was elected. anybody would be having a hard time to fix things.

You are all slightly off. Yes Regan started a heap of the problem with his massive de-regulation of the financial sector, this was carried on by Bush Sr. and Bush Jr.

Clinton started the mortgage’s for people who couldn’t afford them as a SMALL pilot package. Nor more than a handful per year to see if they would work (I forget the exact number, in the low 100’s). Then when Bush Jr. Got into office he opened that scheme up to everyone, and then it got fairly nasty.

I know I’m coming in on this late but, those of you who think that things got so bad during the Bush administration, that Obama can’t make things any worse…you are dreaming! You wait and see if things can’t get any worse. Things can ALWAYS get worse, no matter the situation. And as for what Obama has done “so far”, all I’ve REALLY seen him do is talk…on the news, on talk shows, he does commercials for new TV shows…for comedians, & so on. Someone said (maybe it was Leno), that Obama’s favorite saying is, “Let me just make myself clear.”, but what we want to here him say is, “Let me make myself specific.”. That’s just it, he just talks. And this whole Nobel thing is the biggest crock I’ve ever heard. He’s done NOTHING to warrant him receiving this award. And the people who picked him say that it will help him with talks with Iran, & North Korea??? That isn’t what the prize is for, for what you MIGHT do. If that were the case, there are other Presidents who did things in office, & after, that should have been absolute winners. It’s just like before, & after the election, you would see things in even other countries like, “Obama is God!” written/scribbled everywhere. What a load of CRAP! HE IS NOT THE MESSIAH PEOPLE!!! If he somehow makes things better, & I’m not holding my breath, GREAT! But don’t count on it.

Elliot, the groundwork for many of the problems we are now experiencing are very well documented to have been laid in the last half of the Clinton administration. That is when accounting standards slipped, deregulation was taken further than it should have been and gov’t pandered to corporate greed. I love how everyone looks at companies like Enron and associate it with the Bush administration, but the truth is that it was under Clinton, that they were able to get regulators to look the other way at all of their corruption (FYI: in 1992, Enron was one of the most popular contributors to Bill Clinton and the DNC – Enron was right next to Bill Clinton from his first days in the White House. In 1992, Enron donated $100,000 to Clinton’s inauguration, and Enron’s top exec, Ken Lay, stayed at the White House 11 times!!).

So, yeah, get your head out of the sand and wake up. Bush was not much better with his out of control spending and TARP appropriations, but don’t be so blind to your governments’ ineptness. Now, between the liberal Clinton and the liberal-lite Bush, we have laid the ground-work for the hyper-liberal Obama and his radical agenda to socialize what’s left of a once great nation…

I can’t believe how all of you are missing the big picyure! This health care reform bill that our SOCIALIST leader is trying to get passed will set a pressident. It will be the first time in the history of America that us the citizens will be forced to buy something. If you do not you will be penalized in different ways. Tax penalty, fines, and or jail time. Does anyone not understand that Osamabinbiden is a man on a mission. It will only secure a government that will dominate our lives. Furthermore It will be nothing but profitable to the politicians and be the demise to experimental medicine. Obama surrounds himself with Radicals, one so radical (Bess) who thinks animals have a right press criminal charges against humans. This recession we are in is a direct result of Clinton trying to downsize our infrastucture and regulate small business. Which if anyone knows you put sanctions on small businesses they won’t be able to grow and thus won’t create jobs. Obama fits his name, Obamanation! He’s an absolute disaster and the people that voted for him because they hated bush took part in this countries downfall. Face the facts Liberalism leads to socialism which leads to me not being able to retire. Both party’s are to blame for this! They fight against each other to better themselves. The fact is both party’s need to be overhauled so they learn. We are the ones who count not the politician. They are hired to serve. The politician needs to fight against each other with the public in the middle! I’m sorry to say this to all my American brothers and sisters but if Obama signs the New World Government Treaty in a few weeks Our constitution will mean absolutley nothing anymore and third world countries will have free reign to set forth sanctions on America. We will be up to our ears in Taxes and Government Sanctions. I wish you all well and prosperity. It won’t last long.

Obama seriously hates America and his true colors are showing. He won’t set foot in a church but he will pray in a Moesk in Turkey. He is a Muslem. One question i have for all of you. Why would his advisors Spend over a million dollars to hide his birth records, now i’m not saying he wasn’t born in America but people need to open their eyes. You will all see. Sooner than you think.

I don’t think any other ONE presidential candidate was boasting about how much they could change it ALL if they were elected though. He talked and talked and talked about how he was going to change this and change that. I didn’t vote for him because I didn’t believe he could change all the things he tried to say he was going to during his administration. So I wouldn’t be commending him on being honest and admitting that he lied during his campaign and just doesn’t want us to get our hopes up now that he is in office.

Bush started throwing money away at the end of his term, but we saw that money he threw away not stimulate anything prior to Obama getting elected. So WHY would he think that continuing to throw more money at these problems was going to fix anything? You should re-read through this post and maybe do a little more research and realize that Bush and Cheney didn’t start these problems and Obama is not a saint come to save us from the problems either…….

    • October 22, 2009 at 4:52 pm |

LOL what Bush did? How quickly they forget. First the recession we are in is solely on clinton. Pay attention Sarah. MSNBC, a liberal news show past the facts reluctantly to America 4 months ago. Bush was literally stuck in a spot no president could fix. If you recall 911 didn’t help at all and not going after Osama was Clintons idiotic manuever. Clinton played with him instead of going after him. You blame the wrong man. But if you voted for Obama i BLAME YOU for voting party lines and for voting for someone because you hated our previous president. Get a clue! You will soon be forced to buy insurance governed by Obama’s advisors which will run 20 percent of the country…..Good job you took part first hand in turning our country into a socialist society run by radicals…. If this bill passes and you don’t buy their so-called insurance you will be fined, taxed and or jailed. Next time you vote do your research!!! Or better yet use your god given right to vote and DON’T

I don’t understand why you are all arguing as if any of us really know what’s going on. The banks gave loans to people who couldn’t afford to pay, plain and simple. The property values over the last fifteen years have been hyper inflating. We bought a home in 1997 for $65,000, did absolutely nothing to it, and last year it was appraised at $125,000. I know that our home is worth nowhere near that much. The neighbors in our area also agree. If you were to take a look at the housing prices in the late 1990’s compared to now, the difference is really quite astounding. Also, people were given loans to buy homes because certain political powers believe that everyone should own a home. Fact- not everyone deserves to own a home. Making payments and keeping up with all of the finances that come along with owning a home is a true responsibility. And for all of you that are just calling names to conservative or liberals out there, you’re just as ignorant as those that you despise so much. I don’t understand why everyone has to point the finger instead of standing up, writing to your senators and representatives fighting for what you believe in, and making a real difference. Regardless of what you believe, there are people who feel the same way as you, and if there are enough arguments for your point of view, then you can’t be ignored forever.

    • October 21, 2009 at 5:30 pm |

a house is only worth as much as you can sell it for. my brother bought a house for 150,000 and when he did his taxes, the government told him he owed property taxes for 175,000 because that’s how much it could be appraised for. he argued and refused to pay because, as I said, a house is only worth as much as it’s sold for. took a while, but he ended up paying taxes on 150,000

It’s not often that politicians stay 100% true to what they said they would do while running for office. I don’t agree with Democrats’ policies for fixing our economy, but, there’s not much I can really do alone. :::cracks whip::: wow there’s some fighting words going on over here. Not to be the deciding factor in anyone’s arguments, but a lot of you are right….despite the desire to prove each other wrong. Clinton DID do a lot to improve the economy and the lives of Americans, as well as improve international affairs and the US’s standing in regards to how the rest of the world views us. However, he had a mess going on behind the scenes. Internationally, financially, and apparently personally. The thing is, he didn’t let the public know, so there was no panic and more happiness; a smart move because people kept putting money into the economy and supporting their government. Bush, although not entirely qualified for the job, had this mess dumped in his lap upon inauguration. Being under-qualified to handle such complications, he made the mess worse. Also, he let the public know, dealt with delegates in the wrong manner, and hurt our diplomatic image. To this day, there are diplomats from other countries who will invite the Clintons into their homes but would leave George out in the cold. In an effort to protect his country, he pumped too much money into doing so and messed with the taxes, bringing down everyone’s mood in addition to the economy. Then, Obama comes around proclaiming that he can fix it all and what he didn’t realize is how in over his head he really was. Now, he’s in office, trying to fulfill all these promises he made and we’re all beginning to realize that they are unrealistic. Furthermore, it is the duty of the American people to take a stand for the things they believe in and to educate themselves on the issues in order to do so. That’s my two cents….

Congress….they make the budgets, they graft themselves projects for their home states, they approved TARP, which by the way has barely been used to buy toxic assets….remember LBJ’s excuse for Vietnam? “Congress gave me a blank check” yet somehow economy woes and joys are always blamed on the president…the president really has nothing to do with it. Further, a single sector of the market being responsible for system wide failure? Doubtful. Mortgage backed securities played a big part, but try googling “amount spent so far on Iraq and Afghanistan Wars” because history shows, too, that long term wars deplete treasuries.

Thank you Chris, and to Locke, you’re right and the problem is that they’re all corrupt. If you took a look at the average Congressman’s salary and all of his benefits, you’re jaw would go through the floor. No one is willing to go through and unravel all that needs to be unraveled because the job is just too big and they’d ruffle too many feathers. Therefor, it will always be messed up. WE, the people, are the only ones who can change that and not through war or revolution. No, that’s not where I’m going. I mean we need to educate ourselves and take a stand within our own governmental parameters. Take a step out of our mundane lives and look at the big picture.
