Gay Rights Group: Don’t Let them Ask you
In May, the House of Representatives voted to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell pending an internal policy audit by the military. Now, the Pentagon is preparing to send out 200,000 active and 200,000 reserve servicemen a 100-question survey to determine how it might affect morale if gays were able to openly serve in the military.
In a statement, the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, an advocacy group dedicated to repealing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell ban, recommends that gay and lesbian service members refrain from offering replies. (Yahoo! News)
One of the questions in the survey asks, “Would serving under an openly gay commander adversely affect morale?” Now, I don’t want to nitpick, but it seems to me that this question could have been written in a less graphic way.

Homophobes would kill the commander n take over..it’d be utter mayhem.. he he lol
The phrase, “don’t worry soldier. I got ya back.” Just became sinister
@Matt, LOL
I don’t believe that anyone’s sexual orientation is anybody else’s business. It makes no difference to me if one is gay/straight or bi… Just imagine how many ARE serving our country and fighting the front lines for EVERYONE here in America. Nothing else should matter, when it comes to defending this great land. I am grateful for ALL our soldiers and everything they continue to do on a daily basis.
nuts to the fags, theres enough bum bandits without them being proud of it kill em all!
I do believe sarge made my point for me- sadly, there are still too many military members who really do think like that.
Ten years from now it’d be fine, but this is too soon.
I honestly don’t see what the problem is. So what if people are gay? It’s not as though they are incapable of doing their job.
The problem is that some people think it will make them happy or give them more power to control what others can or can’t do.
There’s a joke somewhere that says something along the lines of “if you take out the gays and lesbians out of the military, you won’t have anyone left in the army”.
Hmm…
Nah, you’re thinking of Navy…
Let’s go spend 6 months at a time on ship with nothing but men in tight quarters with no privacy!
Yeah, I served under Major Schlong, and let me tell you, it was no breeze working under him. He was extremely hard constantly, and he always came at the worst of time. At the end of the day, I was on my knees but he stood straight. The greatest member of the military, they said. I can believe it.
Thank you for under-standing; General Dykey expected us to bend over backwards for her daily inspections.
giggle giggle giggle (blush)
I don’t think it matters, as long as they aren’t bending each other over in the trenches.
Many are already serving, and they don’t exactly try to hide it. They just don’t come out and say it. The main morale issue would be for combat troops – if a commander were openly gay AND effeminate, it would make soldiers less willing to follow him into an actual combat situation, i.e. firefight.
The big issue is with military policies. If two gay soldiers get married in a state where it’s legal. And are stationed in a state where it’s not, do they get the same benefits as a married couple? Do they even get preference in assignments in order to be together? There a many very complex legal issues this would raise, and the military does not have a plan yet to deal with them all.
Sarcasmist, I’m disappointed…
There was so much potential fodder in that story, and you used none of it… :(
No worries, the comments covered for ya ;P
