Tomato paste considered a vegetable
Congress is currently considering a spending bill which would deny funding for the new school lunch standards set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The new proposal is going to, in part, keep french fries and pizza on the menu, as is, without limiting their fat and salt content. What is more is that Congress has decided that two tablespoons of tomato paste on pizza to be continued to be counted as a vegetable.
See folks, this is why you need to make sure that your kids go to and stay in school. Conventional wisdom would argue that tomato paste is not a vegetable, but good schooling will teach your kids the facts as Congress sees it, and let’s be honest, Congress has our best interest at heart.
Parents should make sure that their kids get enough tomato paste in their diet, even if this new spending bill does not pass. Don’t let little things such as the fact that tomato is actually a fruit keep you from feeding your kids tomato paste as part of their daily vegetable servings.
