Appalling: Mitt Romney spends money he earned
Some sleuthing has revealed that Mitt Romney’s La Jolla, California house, though seemingly modest, is anything but. It turns out that he is planning a $12million expansion which includes a four-car-garage which has its own elevator.
The beach-side house is one of three properties which Romney and his wife, Ann, own.
What is worse is not the $12million renovation which Romney has planned, but that he has hired, and paid a lawyer $21,500 to lobby city officials for approving the renovations. This is what is disgusting about rich people, they just think they can use their money to hire people and build things. That $12million could have helped a lot of people pay down their credit cards which they used to buy things they didn’t need.

$12 million for a house extension on a vacation house? Yeah, why try and improve the country at the community level with helping build schools or donating to other charities. That 4 car garage is far more important than helping a school score some much needed books, computers and other equipment.
Oh yeah, I forgot, what was I thinking… according to Mitt’s wife, they are not wealthy and she feels just like a commoner.
Yeah, because when you’re rich, it’s totally within your rights as a rich person to use your money to lobby public officials to do what you want them to, rather than going through the channels as a commoner. Don’t they know rich people’s time and desires are more important than the rest of the population? This is why we should just leave people alone when they are found to have paid off public officials for favorable rulings or for turning a blind eye to crime. If you’ve got the money, there’s no such thing as corruption.
if you did some research, you’d see that the Romneys do a whole lot of community building. The Romneys earned their money – let them spend how they see fit. Again, do some research before you let your jealousy get the better of you. Mitt’s tax return shows he contributed more to charity than he paid in income tax…..
LMAO @ Karen. Of course he contributed more than he paid in taxes. Rich people are different than you and I. They don’t have to pay taxes the same way. They have all sorts of loopholes and means at their disposal.
If I remember correctly, he only paid 1.2% of his net income in taxes. I’m pretty sure the common folk pay more than that.
John u obviously don’t remember correctly because he paid a lot more then 1.2%.
we pay 25% of our annual earnings…my brother-in-law made 25,000 last year. He paid $5000 to the IRS. $5000 is a HUGE deal to someone making an honest living as a self-employed land scaper. He has a 4 yr old and his wife is getting her doctorate. They live very modestly.
Obviously, there is a clear difference between us and the 1%. Really? do people NEED 3 properties when just just one of those properties could probably house a small African village? Rich people like that have NO concept of what its like to struggle to earn a living. For a married couple to only own ONE car because thats all they can afford. Good Ol’ Mit will never step foot in underpriveledged neighborhoods. If fhe did, he would have to face poor people…and then go home to his mansion with his 12 million dollar garage. Its sickning.
He will never ever ever be poor. CEOs like himself give themselves $20 million annual bonuses a year! Gee, how many JOBS would that pay for in just one year. A LOT. Does he care? No.
Oh and He also has millions in banks overseas, which is why is gets away with paying practically nothing in taxes.
Your brother-in-law made $25k and paid $5k in taxes? Does he reside in the US? Who does his taxes?
If I had 12 million extra dollars… I don’t think I’d spend it on other people. I’m sorry! Lol but I’m a normal person, People who run for president are supposed to give away everything they work for. Riiiiggghhhttt. People need to get out of his business and let him live his life. Geez. Don’t be bitter just cause he has more money than most.
It’s how he got his millions and how he doesn’t pay full tax on it that makes some of us bitter.
John he pays what the laws allow. Don’t hate him for following the law. Also he doesn’t pay income tax. He pays capital gains tax which is profit on investment money that was already taxed. You need to learn the tax code.
Anyone who thinks this is wrong is down right moronic.
The guy was a corporate raider. His wealth comes from destroying companies while profiting off their deconstruction. He ruined many middle to lower class lives in the process. That $12M is blood money and while being a corp raider is legal, is that the kind of guy you would want running the country? A guy who would probably sell out every last American for a profit. I’d be just as guilty spending $12M for personal use but the fact is that the guy is running for a position in the country that has EVERYONE criticizing its every move. If takes any of his values from running a company into running a country then we are all doomed.
way to look at the bad. Here take some time and pull all the companies Bain capital saved and failed to save and make a list and put them side by side. Wanna bet which is longer?
Extension to a home: 12 million dollars
Lawyer to lobby the city: 21,500 dollars
“Earned” interest from money you “earned” laying off employees at Bain Capital: Priceless
For everything else, there’s the Chamber of Commerce
I’m pretty sure most people are not thrilled with the abuse of power (and money)to pay off lobbyist…he is in fact entitled to do with his money (however horribly he achieved it) as he wishes. I just wish more people would look at facts like this before we nominate a candidate to run for president. It’s like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire just because the pan is hot! Is our great country able to find a candidate that ALL would want to run our country? That’s what I want to see.
All of you are ridiculously stupid. You wonder why you don’t have millions….really??
Lmao!!! Well said
So how much money is currently in your bank account and what’s tied up in stocks, ira and other options? I’m guessing you are like the rest of us and don’t have millions either. Welcome to the ridiculously stupid club.
@ stubby12: really? I’m not complaining that I don’t have millions…I am questioning the rational of nominating a man for president who clearly has no morals and is ethically challanged.
Your opinion of me makes me laugh…and shows how much intelligence you lack by forming your opinon on others you do not know anything about. The candidates in question have their lives exposed for all of us to see.
It’s doubful you have millions either…lol
