Stopping an Oil Geyser May be Easy, but Capturing the Gushing Oil is Not

“BP fits cap over gushing Gulf Coast oil pipe, begins to capture crude oil to surface”

That’s the headline on an article by the Daily News. BP is so concerned about the oil (spill) that it’s trying to capture the oil instead of stop its flow. Weeks of planning and failed attempts have been due to solutions that were designed to capture the gushing oil.

This is very odd since oil companies (like banks) don’t usually care about oil (profits), and have the well-being of the world in mind with every decision that they make. So it’s perplexing to see that every attempt made so far has been to ‘capture’ the flowing oil instead of stopping the flow altogether.

Hopefully they’ll be able to capture enough oil to help offset the cost of the clean-up and the looming lawsuits.

  1. lucky for BP European people won’t be affected… oh hang on, where do I file law suits?

  2. Well, there’s always just letting it sit there and spew oil. It’s not only a solid business plan and good for the supply and demand cycle of an already limited commodity it’s a plus for ocean life. Think of how fast those fish and other aquatic creatures can swim now with the reduced friction because of the oil lubricating them. Sharks and seals are making out the best, they’re gobbling up all the oil laden birds that can’t get off the surface of the water.

(You do know that the last thing they tried with the ‘mud’ was an attempt to stop the flow?)

    • …and maybe if it gets thick enough we can all walk on water. That means we could all start our own religion…

    • I’ve always wanted to start a religion! He-e-e-y, with all the black, slimy sea creatures, our main god could be “Cthulu”.
