I love Atheists and believers alike because both of them are as stupid as pine cones when it comes to professing their religion/belief/non-religion/non-belief. Seriously Atheists are always complaining ,those religious fools are busy shoving religion down our throats. They want people to accept them for who they are, but what I find very funny is that are just as bad as the religious folk and I'll tell you why. They can't accept people having a religion either, yet they want to be respected and they shove atheism down the religious people's throats. Looking for proof? Just read up it's all right there. Oh my sack! So yes atheists are just as bad. On the other end of the scale however religious folk think that they are holier than thou. They're all "you shall go to hell if you do not redeem yourself". Yeah that really makes me wanna believe. And they can't stand the fact that there are these atheists that don't believe, and yet they also want respect. Hell, I'm a christian and they still try to convert me! Just a different Christian. Anyway I thought this was great entertainment. Really I think both sides are ignorant bastards. Because if you weren't ignorant you'd learn to accept people's beliefs and accept the fact they're not like you.

To clarify: Pascal was not original in his gambit... Islamists had argued a similar point some 600 years earlier. The basic criticism of Pascal's Gambit (that although uncertainty exists, and there is no way to know reasonably whether the God of Abraham exists, the one should gamble that He does, since one has everything to win and nothing to lose) is that indeed a person has a great deal to lose... that is, if a person sacrifices his/her existence or life worshiping an entity that does not exist, then one has squandered his/her sole existence and not taken advantage of it for its intended purpose... but then again, if there is no God, then is there an 'intended' purpose at all?

Anyway, it is oft quoted that God is created in man's image, and not the other way around. Joseph Campbell and many others suggests that belief in an afterlife and eternal reward is simply a "light at the end of the tunnel" for those who otherwise find their existence intolerable. Which may be true. My personal opinion is, whatever works. If the shoe fits...

However, I have noticed that otherwise perfectly intelligent persons lose all sense of rationality when discussing religion and politics. Since that is true, the persons who behave rationally (in this case Athiests) tend to appear smarter, since 'intelligence' as it is commonly understood is a measure of rationality. Angry people also appear irrational at times. The folks who would argue that the earth is less than 7000 years old, or those who contend that one's health care will suffer if those without access were to be somehow provided a minimum level of care which is tax-supported, not fee-for-service instead of denied care altogether in many instances, for example, tend to vent a lot of anger and logical inconsistency. So they appear stupid. Sort of like this entire thread.

Until atheism is scientifically proven to exist, atheists cannot state their beliefs as fact, either.

Why must one assume that religious people can't be intellectual? Sure, there are people who just believe because that is what their parents taught them, but many other people have done research and asked questions, and they have come to an intelligent conclusion that what they believe is true. Religion does not automatically equal stupidity.

Mark - I was just messing with everyone, on this hot topic...everyone is entilted to their views / religions and faiths...I think Carlin, is just reminding us of the more fanatical side of things and how we may get a little carried away and forget "The bigger picture"...

If I were to "class" myself into a religous bubble, I wud go with Paganism...a religion of free spirit, lov of nature and your surroundings...God is in everything beautiful we see and experience...it is the basic concept of Good vs Bad, Ying Yang, etc...

So you're way of disproving Christianity is because it sounds silly to you and because George Carlin put a bad spin on it to make it sound bad? The reason people donate to the Church is to keep the Church running and to pay the staff who help spread the word of Christ, which is why God asks of it, He's not the one that needs it, but you obviously overlooked that. Guess how studies about evolution and the big bang and everything is done? Taxpayer money. In the end it's a person's choice whether they donate money. Also, I could just as easily dumb down evolution and the big bang to make it sound like "bullshit."
Of course it doesn't sound logical, it's called having faith, there is no point in trying to disprove it, but yet atheists always try to. You have fun re-justifying your choice in beliefs.
