9 suspected illegal immigrants die in police pursuit
Note: First I wanted to clarify that the part of the headline that says ‘illegal’ is supposed to say ‘undocumented’.
A van stuffed with suspected illegal (damn it!) undocumented immigrants rolled over during a pursuit in McAllen, Texas, on Wednesday, leaving at least nine Mexican citizens dead, and six others injured.
Border Patrol agents in Texas had stopped the van in Palmview, which is located ten miles west of McAllen, which resulted in some of the passengers sprinting away, with border agents pursuing on foot. As the foot-chase was unfolding, the van containing the rest of the undocumented (I got it right this time!) immigrants sped off, crashing several blocks from the original stopping point, resulting in the multiple deaths and injuries.
Dianna Castillo, 23, a resident who lives near the area were the crash happened, spoke about the event:
“The bodies were everywhere. I wanted to cry because it’s really sad because they came over here to live a better life and then they lost their lives.” (Reuters)
It really is sad that a country of laws and order does not allow the systematic breaking of its rules and laws to allow random people to cross its border in search of a better life. Many people support open borders, and I suspect they are the very same people who leave their front door open at nights for those who are hungry or don’t have a place to sleep, so they can come in and help themselves. If more of us were selfless like these folks, the world would be a much better place.
