Haiti Benefit Blog Post

The Sarcasmist would like to urge all of its supporters who read this blog post to donate money to the Haitian rescue and help efforts. The Sarcasmist got this idea from the numerous celebrities and entertainers who are selflessly joining telethons and holding benefit concerts and asking other people to send money. The biggest of these benefit concerts is to be held is expected to generate millions of dollars for the Haiti disaster. Over 40 celebrities are expected to attend. These selfless entertainers are taking time away from their busy schedules to organize and attend a concert/telethon which will provide them a forum to ask ordinary people to donate their money.

Most experts agree that time is of the essence, but putting on a huge show like this costs money and time so the best that could be done was to have concert 8 days after the calamitous natural disaster hit. Admittedly it would have been much faster if the 40+ celebrities had just donated their own money and not spent hundreds of thousands (if not millions) setting up a benefit concert, but this would have robbed the common people from being able to donate while enjoying a good show.

If you’d rather provide timely help, why not pick one of the options below?

Very true, we spend so much , supporting the celebrities, It is kind of them, to help us help the people suffering in Haiti, I mean celebrities are so much more enlightened about these mattters than us, everyday commoners! ;)

Why would people want to spend their hard earned money to help some third world country half way around the world? As tragic as the situation in Haiti is, I would much rather see people give a hand out to someone from America who is experiencing difficult times. My kids came home from school today with a note asking families to donate money for Haiti but where are the requests for donations to help people here? So sick of seeing this crap on the news, facebook, and hearing about it on the radio.

Wow, so nice to see the caring American’s who are asking for handouts. I can’t for the life of me understand why considerate people who care about human life don’t want to help selfish, egocentric pricks like you…? SHOCKER.

Maybe you should pay attention to your kids’ geography lessons. Haiti is not far from the US at all. And since those people haven’t been spoiled with government welfare like us wonderful Americans they actually deserve the help they get and will be grateful for it. And by the way we’re sick of hearing from ignorant people like you too.

You’ve GOT to be f—ing kidding me. First off, take some geography lessons. Haiti is NOT halfway around the world. It’s a 2-3 hour flight from Florida and adjacent to Cuba. Second, HAITI needs help right now. Yes, there are MANY people in the United States that are in need. However, Haiti much worse off than the United States is right now.

Why am I even saying anything? People like you don’t get it and never will.

Read an atlas. Read a damn book. If this is an example of who American children learn from, whatever deity is in the sky needs to help us ALL. (But then again, maybe not.)

Thank you for killing off most of my brain cells. Much appreciated.

      @ Naomi
Half way around the world? I would love to learn where you are from, and where you got your education.
      @ Alex
Are you being serious? Let’s look at Haiti. One of the only countries in the western hemisphere that has chosen a lack of economic and technological evolution. Their entire economy relies on drug trade. Their government is corrupt and absorbs international aid funding to the point that it never reaches the people. People so blind and/or ignorant that they do nothing to stop any of these things for fear of losing their inherent complacency…
So tell me again, why we should all send our donation? Oh wait. I know why. To make you feel better about yourself. “I’m part of a good cause! I’m a good person!” Will you hold your head higher tomorrow, knowing that you spent your money on something that will not change anything? When the ‘relief’ is over, they will go on about their corrupt and lacking lifestyle.
I don’t believe that ‘donations’ should be given to Americans either. Put your time, money, and effort where it belongs. Cleaning up our house. The American lifestyle, morality and ethic is severely wounded. It’s almost embarrassing that we are a super-power in our current state of shambles.
In summation; giving money to Haiti, is funding international drug trade. Congratulations. Activism should have died in the 60’s. Focus on cleaning up your own life.

@ Nathan: Are you being serious? First of all, what part of my life needs to be cleaned up? Do you even know me? Thanks, but no. And, exactly how is it that Haiti has chosen their current state? I was unaware that we learned how to control and confine the damage caused by natural disasters. For decades, other countries have been in Haiti controlling the way their government works. Democratically elected leaders have been removed, exiled, and replaced with dictators. Don’t for one second believe that all charitable donations do not reach Haiti, it is up to you to donate to the right charity. Have you ever been to Haiti? I highly doubt it. Have you ever left the security of your own little state? Don’t preach until you go there and build shelter. I have been to Haiti – I have seen the money, food, medical supplies and shelter being built even before this disaster occured. So, why don’t you go hide in your comfortable little republican world and keep your bullshit opinion on activism to yourself? I can agree with you on one thing though – the American way of life is severely damaged. Thank god I’m Canadian.

      Naomi,
I would like you to explain what “hard times” exist in America. In Haiti, the government is corrupt and has been corrupt for years (thanks to wonderful Westerners who love to “fix” other countries’ governments). Unemployed Americans get handouts from the government and some even live better than those who are employed. In Haiti, there is almost no industry for the people to work in, the government is corrupt and would never think of helping their own people. Please tell me how you can believe that Americans are more needy than those who live in one of the poorest countries near the US.

      January 18, 2010 at 3:14 pm |

Your not the only one who feels this way. I think that before America uses all this money to help everyone else, they should look to help the people INSIDE the borders first. I see people living on the street, people starving, within our own country, while the US is busy trying to fix everyone else! This country is in DEBT, and we are spending so much of our own resources trying to fix everyone elses problems, even if they dont want to be fixed!
People need to ask themselves, would these countries that we are trying so hard to help with our time and money return the favor? NO! If WE had a disaster, wed be on our own! Why help them when they cant and wont help us?!

      hey hoy Naomi,
One day YOU might lose everything, and find out how is it like to be a female in such an environment. You might die and leave your precious children orphans. And people to make decisions may think; ah, they are too many of them….
You are not more important, and your kids are not more importanta, than some folks coming from third world countries. And this statement is made by someone who is living in a real WELLFARE stae; Finalnd. Google it. Not a stae in Canada.

The world is a better place because I have the sense to teach my children to have nothing to do with coons or any other non-white person and to look upon them with disgust. They are predicting that around the year 2050, the white people will be the minority in America. We are destroying our own race because of ignorant people like you.

Ahaha, you are are by far the most ridiculously short-sighted person I have ever communicated with. Do you even realize what you’re writing? Do you realize that you are already the minority, that your way of life is gone? Discrimination is now illegal, it is banned in your American Constitution. Your children will be looked upon with disgust when they voice these types of opinions. I look upon you with disgust. You make me sick. By 2050, racism will be eradicated, and people like you will be cowering in corners, too afraid to voice your sick opinions based on nothing but fear. You are clearly a coward. Congratulations. That’s why you can ask for a hand out so easily! Always a victim, never to blame. You don’t deserve help from anyone. I hope you choke on your racist bullshit.

      Alex,
You must be a darkie or it’s in your gene pool somewhere for you to get so pissed off. I love it! I am entitled to my opinion illegal or not. There are more racist people out there than what you realize. Most people are just too much of a coward to admit that. I don’t look upon myself as a victim, I don’t take a handout from anyone. I am WHITE and I take care of my own. Always have and always will.
