Russians not as astronomically aware as previously thought

Written by The Sarcasmist on February 11, 2011 - Comments (10)

A new survey has revealed that 32 percent of Russians believe that the Earth is the center of the Solar system.

“It’s really quite amazing,” spokeswoman Olga Kamenchuk said of the survey that polled 1,600 people across Russia’s regions in January, with a 3.4-percent margin of error. (Reuters)

Just goes to show you, Americans are still better than the Russians–only 20 percent of Americans believe the same.

  1. Wait- the earth ISN’T the center of the universe??? O_O

  2. thats a matter of opinion…

the russians didnt spend obscene amounts of cash to develop a pen that works in zero g. they were sensible enough to use a frigging pencil.

and maybe more russians are wrong about that but well over 80% of americans believe the world was made in 7 days…

on the whole… russians are still smarter

    • You might do some researching on that 7 day stuff before you make assumptions. Also…it was made in 6 days. The 7th day was the day God rested.
But do some research on both sides. It wont be easy to find the truth (which is what you did. you just took the easy path of deciding the truth. you picked the side that you were TOLD was intelligent. not what you discovered to be intelligent and the truth.) but after really digging you might find some very interesting evidence. Then MAYBE you won’t insult people that have done the research by calling them unintelligent.

  3. “and maybe more russians are wrong about that but well over 80% of americans believe the world was made in 7 days…” ? Adam, quoting your belief in creationist theory renders all of your arguments invalid.

  4. The earth is the center of the observable universe.

  5. Steve, he wasn’t quoting HIS belief in creationism, he was pointing out that 80% of Americans believe in it and arguing that this makes Americans dumber than Russians on the whole. Maybe try learning to read before you criticize people’s arguments.
I do think 80% is a bit of an exaggeration but I’m pretty sure Adam was doing that on purpose (for effect).

  6. Boy oh boy I almost missed the party!:DD Poor @Adam. . . the clueless @Kay is like a breeze of fresh air! @Just sayin wow, new, interesting thoughts entered my brain but hm I do wonder. . . does it matter who feels unintelligent or not? According to what I believe, being stupid*being in my own little world* is a bliss. Because if you show a sign of observable intelligence as judged by whomever – you then have to “be” the living proof, that intelligent, knowledgeable person. But as far as I have observed from myself and others, intelligence means to be able to live in the moment without any distracting thoughts, to be able to make your dreams come true, direct your thought.

About the text. Well, sometimes science is like the kama sutra. It’s all about the discovery of the right position, who is where and why:?

My idea. Being one with everything is enough.

  7. What’s more disappointing is than only 32% showed to be sarcastic enough to make fun out of such “important” research.
